I used to be the definition of an impulse buyer, especially in college. After getting a job and having to become an actual adult, I have learned to better control my impulses. Where I have the hardest time is when an item(s) is on sale. Most of the time I walk away saying, “why did I buy that, I don’t even need it.” I somehow can always justify it with “but, it was on sale!” Well not anymore, sister. I wanted to share with y’all some of the questions I ask myself before making an impulsive sale purchase.
Your first question should be, would I buy this even if it wasn’t on sale? If the answer is yes, proceed with the purchase. If no, ask yourself a few more questions. Next, does this item have a purpose? Do you need this piece for an event, is it filling a gap in your wardrobe or are you just buying it to buy something? Lastly, can you get multiple uses out of this product? This may or may not be more important than the first question. When you are buying full-priced clothes, you always are thinking about how you can incorporate it into your current wardrobe. If you are buying something on sale your thought process should be no different. If you can’t wear it to several different events, occasions or just on a daily basis put it down and walk away. If you can’t pair it with anything you already have most definitely start moving in the other direction. Don’t be fazed by the sale. Yes, the prices are lower but the merchandise is all the same.
Although sales can get the better of all of us, they are great for the pocket book. Just because an item is on sale doesn’t necessarily mean you are buying it impulsively. I typically only buy items when they go on sale. I will watch the items I like and when a discount arises I will make the purchase. Shop smarter not harder my friends!
